A slow first-half start, coupled with double-digit turnovers by the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team lead to a 37-28 loss to Towanda on Friday.
The Hornets turned the ball over 15 times on the night.
Wellsboro's offense produced just four points in the first quarter and six in the 2nd, while Towanda put up 17 first-half points, 10 of which came in the 1st quarter.
The Hornets' went on a 14-9 run to close the gap down to 26-24, but Towanda regrouped to go on a 11-4 4th quarter run, pushing the final margin of victory to 9 points.
Junior Colin Fletcher led the Hornets with 10 points, while seniors Luke Rothermel and Jonathan Carl scored 6 points apiece. Sophomore Griffin Morral finished with 4 points and senior Marek Mascho rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Carl added 13 rebounds, Rothermel grabbed 6 boards and Fletcher added 5. Rothermel also blocked a shot and made 2 assists and Carl had 2 steals.
Markel Garner led all scorers with 12 points.
Wellsboro won the JV game 46-29 behind 12 points from sophomore Kody Enck.
The Hornets close out the regular season at Central Columbia on Monday.
