Athens put together a 19-3 run in the second half to pull away for a 35-12 NTL Large School Division win over the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets trailed 9-4 after the first quarter and were outscored 7-5 in the 2nd to trail 16-9 at the half. That's when Athens pulled away. They held Wellsboro to three points in the 3rd quarter and scoreless in the 4th to go to the win.
Freshman Kya Lawton led the team with 5 points, freshman Lena Rothermel added 4, sophomore Kate Bryant pitched in 2 and sophomore Amelia Hulslander rounded out the scoring with one point.
McKenna Jarvis led all scorers with 16 points.
Athens won the JV game 21-11. Rothermel led the team with 4 points while sophomores Madison Nagy, Jennifer Belz and Aileen Bowers and freshman Shayla Hamblin all scored 2 points apiece.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 4-17 (2-13 NTL Large School Division). The team travels to Troy to wrap up their regular season Monday.
