Wellsboro fell to rival North Penn-Liberty 13-1 in 5 innings Thursday, snapping the Lady Hornets' 4-game win streak.
The Lady Hornets did take the early lead with their only run in the 2nd inning as sophomore Teagan Novinger led off the inning with a walk. Sophomore Madalynn Flannery came on as a courtesy runner and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch then later scored on a passed ball.
However, the wheels fell off beginning in the top of the 3rd. The Lady Mounties plated two runs in the inning to take the lead, and poured on 13 straight runs, led by an 8-run 4th inning, to go on for the win.
Wellsboro was held to just one hit in the game, a single by freshman Haylie Smith.
North Penn-Liberty belted out 7 hits in the game with Addilyn Lehman going 2-for-2 and Claire Dominick hitting 2-for-3.
Sophomore Adelyn Frantz went 3 and a third innings, allowing 9 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Freshman Gena Fleming came on in relief, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 4 walks.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 5-4 (3-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action this afternoon at Troy.
