Junior Colin Fletcher scored a game-high 20 points to help the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team erase a two-game losing streak and defeat Wyalusing 59-50 Wednesday.
Fletcher and senior Jonathan Carl had the hot hands early, combining for 18 of the Hornets' 29 points.
Wellsboro held an 8-4 lead after the first quarter, then both teams' offenses exploded for a combined 41 points in the 2nd, with Wellsboro scoring 21 of them to take a 29-24 lead into the half.
The Hornets opened up a little distance on the Rams in the 3rd with a 17-7 run, then held on as Wyalusing outscored them 19-13 down the stretch.
"Tonight was a nice bounce back win after a tough one Monday," head coach Ron Doughtie commented.
After Fletcher's 20 and Carl's 13, freshman James Doughtie finished with 9 points, sophomore Griffin Morral added 6, senior Luke Rothermel chipped in 5, junior Gideon Lawton had 4 and senior Marek Mascho rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Rothermel added 8 rebounds and 4 assists, Mascho and Carl both grabbed 6 rebounds each, Fletcher made 4 steals, and Morral and Doughtie added 4 rebounds apiece. Fletcher also blocked a shot.
Tyler Caplan finished with 15 points for the Rams.
Wellsboro edged Wyalusing 49-45 in the JV game to rally from their loss to Athens. Doughtie led the way with 12 points.
The Hornets are back in action at home on Friday against Towanda.
