The Wellsboro Cross Country teams got their season underway Thursday afternoon by sweeping South Williamsport at home.
Both Varsity teams defeated South Williamsport 15-50 as the Mounties only had one male and one female runner competing.
For the girls junior Lauren Kosek won in 23:44 followed by freshman Kaci Kosek (27:33) and sophomore Luisa Crocco (33:31). Sophomore Anja Przybycien finished 5th in 36:47.
In the boys race seniors Max Macias and Henry Whitney took home the top two spots, with Macias clocking in at 19:20 and Whitney finishing in 20:03. Senior Ethan Geneski (24:05) was 4th, freshman Taitt Webster (24:16) came home 5th, senior Henry Nowak (24:54) came home 6th, sophomore Jack Hammerton (26:48) was 7th, freshman Jacob Patterson (26:57) finished 8th, freshman Jesse Spicer (27:57) was 9th, and freshman Austin DeShazo (31:17) rounded out the field in 10th.
Wellsboro split the junior high races with the boys winning 20-35 and the girls falling, 15-47. Summer Boder (17:58) was 7th, Brianna O'Shea Losinger (18:03) clocked in 8th, and Serenity Harrison (20:46) was 9th.
Lucas Crowl (13:29) led the young Hornets with a 2nd place finish while William Rudy (14:46) was 3rd, Wiley Sargent (14:50) finished 4th, Emmett Tice (15:20) was 5th, and Jeff Rawson (15:30) came home 6th.
Both teams are back in action at this weekend's Cliff Robbins Memorial Invite.
