Trojans Shake Off Slow Start To Run All Over Wellsboro In District Football Opener

After giving up an early touchdown Troy scored 49 straight points to beat Wellsboro, 49-8, in the District IV, Class AA football quarterfinals.

Mason Smith ran for 155-yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries while adding another 55-yards on 4-for-8 passing.

Teammate Brendan Gilliland ran for 92-yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, as well.

After Griffin Morral scored just over two minutes in for the Hornets for an 8-0 lead Smith had a 36-yard touchdown run to answer for an 8-8 score.

With just 52 seconds left in the quarter Gilliland punched one in a yard out for a 14-8 lead.

Gilliland added a 60-yard score to start the second, followed by a pair of touchdown runs from Smith - 24-yards and 56-yards - for a 35-8 halftime score.

Smith added a 23-yard scoring run to start the third, followed by Reed Palmer returning a fumble for the final score.
