Lady Hornets Sweep Troy, Williamson To Start Season

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Track team kicked off their season with a sweep of Troy and Williamson on Tuesday, March 25.
The Lady Hornets beat Williamson 89-61 and Troy, 94-55. Williamson also defeated Troy, 82-62.
"Due to the weather and the recent wind storm damaging our pole vault pit, we were contemplating canceling the meet," said head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "We decided to go ahead to let kids get a starting mark for the year. It ended up being an impressive showing for us. We have 23 freshmen. They are definitely going to make a wave!"
Sophomore Piper Hoprich won the 100m (12.35) with freshman Luna Moyer (13.63) finishing 3rd. Hoprich also took home the top spot in the 200m in 25.86 with junior Sophia Yoder (29.19) in 4th. Freshman Isla Twoey (1:07.30) won the 400m, sophomore Lauren Kosek (2:36.34) was 2nd in the 800m with freshman Molly Tice (3:20.74) in 4th. Kosek also won the 1600m (5:35.94) and the 3200m (5:35.94) runs.
Junior Kristina Belz (20.41) was 4th in the 100m hurdles and freshman Jennifer Belz (59.85) was 4th in the 300m hurdles.
Wellsboro won two of the three relay events, taking 1st in the 4x100m (53.03) and the 4x400m (4:37.64). The Lady Hornets were 2nd in the 4x800m in 12:30.69.
Senior Annie Gehman (4-ft, 10) and Kristina Belz (4-ft, 6) were 1st and 3rd in the high jump, sophomore Ellie Largey (6-ft, 6) and junior Megan Mosher (6-ft, 6) were 3rd and 4th in the pole vault, Gehman (15-ft, 1) won the long jump with Kristina Belz (14-ft, 9) in 3rd, and Gehman (32-ft, 2) won the triple jump to complete the sweep with Twoey (30-ft, 3.75) finishing 2nd.
Junior Addison Harlan (25-ft, 1) was 5th in the shot put, freshman Katie Whitney (70-ft, 8.5) was 7th in the discus, and senior Paige Logsdon (88-ft) was 2nd in the javelin.
Wellsboro 2-0 (2-0 NTL) travels to Central Mountain for a non-league meet Thursday afternoon.
