Lady Hornets Score Early, Fall 5-1 To Athens

The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team took an early lead against the Lady Wildcats from Athens, but ultimately fell 5-1 on Tuesday.

The Lady Hornets took the lead in the 1st inning on a home run by freshman Adelyn Frantz. Wellsboro held onto the lead until the bottom of the 3rd when Athens scored three runs to take the lead. They added two more in the 4th to increase the lead to 5-1, then held on the rest of the game.

Wellsboro had six hits in the contest but couldn't produce any more offense.

Senior Paige Logsdon and junior Harleigh Cleveland were both 1-for-3, Frantz and fellow freshman Teagan Novinger both finished 2-for-3.

Frantz threw a complete game, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts.

Madalyn Hiley and Danica May were both 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Wildcats. Gretchan Hiley struck out 15 for Athens on the mound for the win.

Wellsboro falls to 5-12 (3-11 NTL Large School Division). The team is back on the road this afternoon at Northeast Bradford.
