Lady Hornets Fall Short Against Wyalusing, 51-40

The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team had a slow start in a 51-40 loss to Wyaluinsg, dropping their 4th straight game on Wednesday.

Wyalusing outscored the Lady Hornets 8-2 in the opening quarter, and Wellsboro was unable to dig themselves out of that hole over the remaining 24 minutes.

Both teams scored 15 points each in the 2nd quarter to keep the gap at six points heading into the locker room. Wellsboro outscore Wyalusing by a point, 15-14, in the 3rd quarter, however the Lady Rams outscored the Lady Hornets 14-8 in the 4th to secure the win.

Freshman Adelyn Frantz led Wellsboro with 13 points while senior Paige Logsdon added 10 and senior Chloe Brandenburg pitched in 9. Freshman Teagan Novinger scored 4 points and junior Lily Wagner and freshman Rylee Coolidge added 2 points each.

Logsdon added 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double. She also made 6 assists. Novinger pulled down 9 boards, and Brandenburg made 4 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds.

Wellsboro turned the ball over31 times on the evening.

Chloe Bennett led all scorers with 19 points and Alysha Botts backed her up with 12.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets' to 3-5 overall (1-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action Monday against Williamson.
