The Wellsboro Girls Varsity Basketball team ended a four-game losing streak following a 51-47 NTL cross-over win against Williamson on Monday.

The entire game was closely contested as Williamson held a 10-9 lead over the Lady Hornets after the opening quarter, but Wellsboro controlled the game after that.

Wellsboro went on a 14-10 run, highlighted by a buzzer-beating three-point shot by senior Chloe Brandenburg right before halftime. Prior to that, however, Wellsboro started controlling the glass, limiting Williamson to just one shot attempt while getting the Lady Warriors in foul trouble.

"Chloe's long NBA 3 to end the first half set the tone for the second half," said head coach Maureen Poirier. "The girls came out in the second half ready to play. Paige and Teagan did a great job controlling the boards in the second half of play and finishing underneath. The girls moved the ball offensively and found the open girl tonight for great shots."

The Lady Hornets continued to control the glass throughout the second half while they continued to produce offensively. Wellsboro edged Williamson 18-17 in the third quarter to increase their lead to 41-37. Both teams scored 10 points each in the final frame, however Wellsboro shot more consistent while Williamson went on a scoring drought in the first half of the quarter.

"Turnovers have been our Achilles heel most of the season," continued Poirier. "Tonight, the girls did a much better job controlling the ball. In the second half, we only had 4 turnovers. If this team continues to work hard, we will get a signature win soon."

Three Lady Hornets finished with double digits in the score book, lead by Brandenburg's 19. Senior Paige Logsdon recorded her third straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Teagan Novinger scored 13 points and added 10 boards for her 3rd double-double of the season.

Freshmen Adelyn Frantz and Rylee Coolidge added 3 points and 2 points, respectively.

Brandenburg added 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Coolidge finished with 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, Frantz had 3 rebounds and 4 assists, and junior Lily Wagner finished with 4 assists and 2 steals.

Kenna Thomas (15) and Olivia Meisner (13) led Williamson on the night.

Williamson won the JV game 31-20. Freshman Kate Bryant led Wellsboro with 10 points.

The win improves Wellsboro to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the NTL Large School Division standings. The team is back in action Wednesday evening at Troy.
