Sophomore Lauren Kosek became Wellsboro's new 1600m record holder after running a 5:15.97 to finish 2nd overall in the race at the Molly Dry Invite at Mansfield University Thursday.
Kosek beat the old record of 5:17.90, held by current Wellsboro Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025 inductee Debbie Bilder. Bilder set the old record in 1989.
Kosek is now the owner of both Wellsboro Girls Track's long distance records after breaking the 3200m mark at last year's District IV championships.
The Lady Hornets had a stellar day, finishing 3rd overall with 127.5 points. Jersey Shore was 2nd with 149 and Hughesville won with 152 points.
Sophomore Piper Hoprich won both the 100m (12.44) and 200m (25.77), freshman Isla Twoey (1:07.47) was 10th in the 400m, Kosek was 2nd in the 3200m (11:25.61), freshman Jennifer Belz was 10th in the 100m hurdles (19.93) and 11th in the 300m hurdles (58.74), and senior Karah Blackwell was 6th in the steeplechase (11:27.15).
Senior Annie Gehman won the long jump (15-ft, 9.75) and the triple jump (33-ft, 7) and 2nd in the high jump (4-ft, 10). Twoey was also 2nd in the long jump (15-ft, 5) and 4th in the triple jump (32-ft, 2.5).
Sophomore Ellie Largey won the pole vault (7-ft), senior Paige Logsdon was 7th in the discus (81-ft, 11) and 6th in the javelin (79-ft, 10), and junior Lilah Paredes (24-ft, 6) was 12th in the shot put.
Wellsboro took 2nd in the 4x100m (51.83), 5th in the 4x400m (4:45.05), and 5th in the 4x800m (13:02.48).
The Lady Hornets are back in action Tuesday at home against Northeast Bradford.
