The Wellsboro Golf team began the 2025 season with a 2nd place finish at the Towanda Golf Club.
The Hornets shot an overall score of 355 to finish behind Towanda (323) and edge out Athens (358). North Penn-Mansfield (367) was 4th, Cowanesque Valley (387) came home 5th, Wyalusing (396) was 6th, Canton (418) finished 7th, and Sayre rounded out the field with a 595.
"It was a solid effort by the team across the board in challenging conditions," said first-year head coach TJ Howe. "The heat and course setup played a factor today, but we are pleased with the 6-1 start to the season, without question. The exciting part is we have room for improvement. I thought Sam played a great first career high school match, and Syler was able to post a decent round without his best stuff. They've seen now what they are capable of. We just need the mindset of trying to improve every day, myself included."
Junior Syler Pietrzyk led the Hornets with a 4th place overall finish and round of 82. Freshman Samuel Jackson tied for 6th with an 84, sophomore Chase Schultz shot a 94, freshman Benjamin Jackson finished with a 95, and sophomore Logan Johnson and senior Kiernen Whitsell each shot rounds of 102.
Wellsboro starts the year off at 6-1. The team is at River Valley Country Club Thursday.
