Hornets Split Opening Track Meet With Williamson, Troy

The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Track team split an NTL tri-meet with Williamson and Troy on Tuesday, March 25 to open their season.

The Hornets defeated Williamson 100-50 but fell to Troy, 84-66. Troy also beat Williamson 120-28.

Senior Jack Bryant (11.61) and juniors Jonathan Carl (11.75) and Jacoby Strang (11.91) took 2nd-4th in the 100m, Bryant (24.31) and Strang (24.78) were 2nd and 4th in the 200m, Carl (53.83) won the 400m, and junior Jude Cuneo (2:26.59) and freshman Logan Johnson (2:27.03) were 2nd and 3rd in the 800m.

Junior Max Macias (4:52.43) and Henry Whitney (5:06.78) were 1st and 3rd in the 1600m and also finished 1-2 in the 3200m (Macias - 10:48.33, Whitney - 11:35.54). Senior Micah Vickery (16.31) won the 110m hurdles with freshman Brayden Benjamin (20.53) coming home 3rd, and freshman Ransom Schultz (52.22) and Benjamin (53.88) were 2nd and 3rd in the 300m hurdles.

The Hornets won two of the three relays, winning the 4x100m in 45.95 and the 4x800m in 9:03.19. Wellsboro finished 3rd in the 4x400m in 4:05.06.

Vickery (5-ft, 8) was 3rd in the high jump, senior Gabe Carpenter (10-ft) was 2nd in the pole vault, senior Micaiah Fitch (19-ft, 5.5) was 2nd in the long jump, and Carl (38-ft, 11.5) and Fitch (38-ft, 4.75) were 2nd and 3rd in the triple jump.

Junior Kiernen Whitsell (27-ft, 6) was 6th in the shot put, junior Jacob Thurstin (86-ft, 3) was 5th in the discus, and sophomores Spencer Winters (87-ft, 2.5) and Jacob Smith (83-ft, 3.5) were 6th and 7th in the javelin.

Wellsboro (1-1, 1-1 NTL) travels to Central Mountain for a non-league meet Thursday afternoon.
