The Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team sent their senior class off in style with a 15-0 shutout victory in 4 innings over Williamson Monday afternoon for Senior Night.
The win also made the Hornets playoff eligible.
"Great team win on Senior Night with all four seniors contributing in our playoff clinching win," said head coach Kyle Smith. "We are happy for the seniors to be able to play solid baseball down the stretch and extend our season. Ryder, Alec, Dustin and Gabe have all been key factors for this young team. Leading by example on the field is what you hope for as a coach and all four of them have done that consistently this season and throughout their careers."
Wellsboro held Williamson scoreless in the top of the 1st then scored the game's first run. With one out sophomore Coen Tennis hit a line drive to 3rd, however a throwing error allowed senior Gabe Sprouse to steal third and eventually score.
Later in the second senior Alec Magli kicked off an 8-run inning with a two-out double. Juniors Cameron Owlett and Marek Mascho, freshman Gabe Cuneo, Sprouse, Magli, seniors Ryder Bowen and Dustin Owlett, and sophomore Syler Pietrzyk all scored in the inning putting the Hornets up, 9-0.
The Hornets added three more runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings to close things out. Mascho, Tennis, and Dustin Owlett scored in the 3rd, then Mascho doubled in the 4th to score Magli and Sprouse to make it 14-0 before he eventually crossed home plate for the game's final run.
Mascho finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs to lead Wellsboro at the plate while Magli was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Sprouse, Cuneo, and sophomore Max Mascho accounted for the remaining two of 8 hits. Cuneo and Max Mascho (2) also drove in runs.
Sprouse allowed just 2 hits on the afternoon to go with a walk and 4 strikeouts on just 49 pitches to pick up his 5th win of the year.
Christian Ling (1-for-2) and Owen Cilino (1-for-2) had Williamson's hits.
The Hornets are now 10-9 on the season and play their final home game this afternoon against Addison.
