A 25-9 first quarter run in last night's game between Wellsboro and Wyalusing gave the Hornets complete control as they won their 10th game of the season on Senior Night, 61-29.
"It's always nice to send your seniors off with a win on senior night," head coach Ron Doughtie said. "Tonight was a night where everyone on the varsity got be a part of that celebration."
Wellsboro's fast start continued into the 2nd quarter, where they outscored the Rams 15-11, to build a 40-20 lead heading into halftime. In the 2nd half Wellsboro outscored the Rams 21-9, holding Wyalusing to just two points in the third quarter.
Junior Luke Rothermel led all scorers with 15 points, senior Mitchel Lechler finished with 11 points, junior Jonathan Carl added 8, freshman Griffin Morral added 7 points, freshman Ransom Schultz contributed six points, junior Marek Mascho and sophomore Colin Fletcher added 5 points each, and sophomore Ethan Keane chipped in 4 points.
Lechler added 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 boards and blocked 2 shots, Rothermel dished out 6 assists and had 4 rebounds, Carl grabbed 6 rebounds and made 5 steals, Schultz had 4 rebounds and blocked a shot, and Morral also grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 assists.
In the JV game Wellsboro defeated Wyalusing 44-30 to win their 7th game in a row and improved to 14-6. Schultz scored 10 points while freshman Kody Enck added 8.
Wellsboro travels to Towanda on Friday for their final NTL game. The win improves the Hornets' to 10-10 (9-6 NTL Large School Division).
