Canton girls' hoops gave Mountain View their best shot, but came up short, 50-32, during PIAA, Class AA Girls' Basketball Playoff action Friday.
"I was very proud of our effort tonight," said Canton coach Ryan VanNoy. "Defensively we played very well. They return the Class A Player of the Year, who is 6-foot, 2-inches, and averages 19 points a game. Alexis McRoberts and Cailyn Van Noy did a great job keeping her well below her average. We just had too many empty possessions where our shots didn't fall, and they made shots when they needed to."
Mountain View out scored Canton in every quarter but the fourth, taking a 27-14 lead at the half.
Van Noy had11 points to lead the Warriors, while lone senior Kendall Kitchen finished with 10.
Danah Wesneski added six points to go with five boards, and two steals, as Alexis McRoberts notched four points, 14 rebounds, and two steals.
Lydia Roupp chipped in with one point, and seven boards.
Addison Kilmer and Emily Trichilo scored 12 points each to lead Mountain View, as Ryleigh Kilmer finished with 11.
Mountain View jumped out to an 11-4 first quarter lead as five different players scored for them.
Canton had 10 points in the second, paced by 3-balls from Kitchen, and Van Noy, but an eight point frame from Ryleigh Kilmer saw Mountain View take the 13 point lead into the locker room.
In the third they out scored Canton 15-9 to pull away, with Van Noy scoring six points to lead the Warriors.
Canton had their best season since 2002 this year, and will return all but Kitchen going into next season, as they also look to get key players back from injury.
"I'm so proud of these kids in the year that they had," Van Noy said. "We've come so far since the beginning of the season. It was very difficult to watch Kendall Kitchen walk off the floor for the last time tonight. She's one of the toughest kids I've ever coached, and she will be missed. The chemistry this team has built will carry on into next season and we will try our best to get better."
