Athens Rides Early PK To 1-0 Win Over Wellsboro

WELLSBORO - Junior Delanie Patton converted a penalty kick about five minutes into the game, and the Athens defense made it stand in a 1-0 win over Wellsboro here Tuesday afternoon in NTL Large School Division girls soccer action at Alumni Stadium.

"We played a full 80-minute game," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "I could not be prouder of this group ... they worked so hard tonight to get the win. "Delanie with a great PK, but we had numerous other chances to finish the game off," added Pitts. "Their goalkeeper is one of the best in the league, and proved it tonight."

The Wildcats had an 11-5 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
