Wellsboro's Junior High Softball team started their season off at 1-3, splitting a doubleheader with Williamson on April 15 and dropping a doubleheader to Cowanesque Valley on April 17.
The Lady Hornets took game one against Williamson, winning 17-2. Genevieve Fleming and Haylie Smith led the team with 2 hits apiece, while Hannah Taylor, Adelyn Frantz, Delaney Morral, Teagan Novinger, Lacie Brutsman, and Rylee Coolidge added solo hits. Fleming pitched a complete game, striking out six.
In game two Williamson shut out Wellsboro, 11-0. Emaleigh Hamblin led Wellsboro with 3 hits while Madalynn Flannery added a single hit. Smith pitched the full game, striking out six in the loss.
Against Cowanesque Valley the Indians edged out the young Lady Hornets 6-5 in a pitchers dual in the first game. Fleming recorded a pair of hits in the game and Novinger also added a hit. Fleming also pitched the full game, striking out 8.
In game two, Smith and Cabella Hazelton recorded hits in CV's 5-3 win. Smith pitched a complete game with 3 strikeouts.
Wellsboro (1-3) hosts Canton on Monday.
