The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team fell 4-1 to Athens on Tuesday, October 2.
Addy Wheeler opened the scoring for the Lady Wildcats with 24:07 remaining in the first half, assisted by Delanie Patton. With 18:20 left, Brielle Mayo scored unassisted to increase the lead to 2-0.
Patton scored a pair of goals in the second half, sandwiching Wellsboro's lone goal of the game. Patton's 1st goal came with 22:30 left to play, then she later scored with 7:00 left.
Senior Cassidy Mitchell scored Wellsboro's goal with 19:43 remaining. She sent a shot from 35 yards out, assisted by senior Annie Gehman.
Athens out shot Wellsboro 21-4 and had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Jadyn Dunlap stopped 17 shots in goal.
Athens won the JV game 1-0 on a Joyce Clink goal.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 2-6-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the NTL. The team is back in action Thursday at Wyalusing.
