Canton jumped out early and hung on late as they defeated Troy, 9-7, during NTL baseball action.
The Warriors led 4-2 after the first and extended their lead to 8-3 at one point. Troy would cut it to 8-7, but in the seventh Canton added an insurance run, then held the Trojans in check in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
They got a strong outing from ace Holden Ward, who went 5 1/3-innings to get the win, striking out seven with two walks, eight hits, and five runs, one of which was earned.
Zach Colton went the final 1 2/3-innings with no strikeouts or walks, three hits, and two unearned runs.
At the plate for Canton Holden Ward (2-for-3) had a run scored and an RBI while Ben Fitch (2-for-2) had a double with a run scored, and 2-RBI.
Bailey Gardner (1-for-4) had a double with a run scored, as Colton (1-for-3) scored three times and drove in a run.
Michael Beers (1-for-4) had 2-RBI with Cohen Landis (1-for-3) hitting a double with a run scored.
Hudson Ward (1-for-4) scored, and had an RBI, with Mason Harold driving in two runs, and Jason Mahosky scoring.
