SHAMOKIN - Athens fell to top-seed Shamokin, 50-7, in a District 4, Class 4A football semi-final match-up here Friday night.
The Wildcats couldn't gain offensive traction during the contest, with just 55 total yards and three firsts downs, though their defense played well enough to keep them in the game until late in the first half.
Senior Keegan Congdon spoiled the Indians’ shutout attempt, ripping the ball from the running back and returning it 85 yards down the left side of the field to paydirt with 5.3 seconds remaining in the game. Zach Fisher added the point-after for the 50-7 final.
