After a scoreless opening 22 minutes, Hughesville went on a 5-goal scoring spree in the first half of Saturday's match up with the Hornets, defeating them 5-3.

"A tale of two halves. When you score 3 goals, you should win a soccer match," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Unfortunately, we found ourselves in a deep hole early and the boys ran out of time in their effort to recover. We return to league play on Monday and will need to be ready to play a full 80 minutes of soccer."

After Hughesville's scoring assault finished up with 10 minutes remaining in the half, the Hornets finally found the back of the net with just under 90 seconds remaining. Senior Alex Citrino scored off an assist from senior Lucas Cuneo. Citrino later scored with 37:20 remaining in the second half, assisted by junior David Seeling.

Senior Micaiah Fitch scored with 18:18 remaining to bring the final to 5-3.

Both teams took 8 shots on goal and Hughesville had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Kayden Rogers recorded 1 save in goal and junior Camden Tom had 3 saves.

Wellsboro won the JV game 2-1. Hughesville had an own goal, credited to Xavier Lecker, to put the Hornets on the scoreboard. Freshman Octavian Wyman scored the 2nd goal, assisted by sophomore Jacob Smith from a free kick.

Wellsboro falls to 8-2 on the season and is back in action Monday against Athens.
