Overtime Goal By Athens Edges Wellsboro, 2-1

An overtime goal by Lizzie Gorsline lifted the Athens Lady Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over Wellsboro in both teams' season opener on Tuesday, August 27.
Sophomore Ella Boyce put the Lady Hornets on the board early with 17:01 remaining in the first half off an assist from freshman Kate Bryant. Wellsboro held that lead until the Lady Wildcats' Delanie Patton tied the game up on an unassisted goal with 32:25 left to play.
Gorsline's game-winner came just 32 seconds into the first overtime period.
Athens out shot the Lady Hornets 14-3 and had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Jadyn Dunlap made 10 saves in goal.
Athens won the JV game 3-0. Senior Emma Mosher made 3 saves in goal and Chloe Bathrick saved 1 shot.
The loss starts out Wellsboro 0-1 (0-1 NTL) on the season. The team is back in action Thursday at North Penn-Mansfield.
