Montoursville snapped Wellsboro's six-game win streak in a 3-2 win over the Hornets on Saturday, October 12.
"It wasn't the start we had planned for, but it was the response we were pleased to see," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Trailing by two goals, the boys continued to battle and scored two unanswered goals to tie the game. They created additional opportunities in the second half, but just couldn't find that the third goal after Montoursville took the lead on a PK."
Montoursville took a two-goal lead in the first half, both on shots by CJ Lucas, one at 34:52 and the 2nd at 10:03. Wellsboro got on the scoreboard late in the opening half as senior Alex Citrino scored on a penalty kick to cut the lead in half. Citrino later tied the game up not even two minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal. Montoursville's Bryce Winslow later converted a penalty kick with 11:25 remaining to edge out the Hornets.
Montoursville out shot Wellsboro 8-3. Wellsboro had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks and junior Camden Tom made 2 saves in goal.
Wellsboro won the JV game 4-0 on a pair of goals by freshmen Mason Brill and Xavier Lecker, and sophomore Peter Doan. Freshmen Brayden Benjamin and Fen Moyer recorded assists.
Wellsboro falls to 14-3 overall. They travel to Loyalsock for their final regular season game Tuesday.
