The Wellsboro Girls Wrestling team began their second full season of competition with a 9th place finish at the Jarvis Tournament in Athens on Saturday, December 7.
The team scored 21 points, finishing ahead of Milton (19), Sullivan County (18), Wyalusing (14), and Sayre (10). Selinsgrove (136) took home the top spot, followed by Towanda in 2nd (124.5), Athens (115), Wallenpaupack (101.5), and Massabesic (ME) rounded out the top 5 with a score of 51.5.
Wellsboro scored their first individual victory in the 3rd round as freshman Isla Twoey (106) and junior Jordan Rumsey (112) both scored pin falls. Twoey pinned Athens' Madison Schneider in 55 seconds while Rumsey pinned Towanda's Natalyn Morris in 2:51.
Freshman Katie Whitney won her 9th place match (130) against Sayre's Chaylin Roloson, pinning her in 48 seconds.
Junior Kaelyn Peterson took 7th at 124, scoring a forfeit over Milton's Louise Cromley.
Senior Megan Robbins also took 7th at 136, pinning Muncy's Caydence Ohl in 1:32.
The team is back in action next weekend at the Lady Phoenix Christmas Classic, hosted by Sugar Valley Rural Charter.
