Wellsboro improved upon their Jarvis Tournament finish a week ago with a 6th place finish at the Lady Phoenix Christmas Classic on Saturday.
Southern Huntingdon won the tournament with a score of 120.5. Bald Eagle Area (119) was 2nd, Jersey Shore (116) came home 3rd, Mifflinburg (99.5) finished 4th, and host Sugar Valley Rural Charter rounded out the top 5 with 97 team points. Wellsboro scored 88 points to finish ahead of Muncy (82), Bellefonte (64), Line Mountain (56), Benton (45), and Sullivan County (38).
Overall the Lady Hornets had four members earn 2nd place finishes and two 4th place finishes.
Sophomore Kaelyn Peterson (124) and senior Megan Robbins (136) both won their quarterfinal matches. Peterson advanced directly to the finals while Robbins went on to the semis. Freshman Isla Twoey (106), junior Kodi Passmore (118) and Robbins proceeded to win their semi-final matches. All four lost in their respective championship bouts.
Junior Jordan Rumsey (112) started her tournament by pinning Mifflinburg's Makenna Walter in 1:17 in the 1st consolation round, then fell to Southern Huntingdon's Hayley Sunderland 21-18 in the championship quarterfinals. In the consolation semi-finals she defeated Sugar Valley's Kohana Yamashita (1:24 pin) before falling to Sunderland in 2:36 in the 3rd place match.
Freshman Rosa Sguera (124) lost her opening round quarterfinal match to Sugar Valley's Aaliyah Hopkins and was pinned by Bellefonte's Carly Bair in 1:12 to finish 4th.
The Wellsboro girls return to the mats in January at Montgomery's Matness @ The MAAC Tournament on the 4th.
