Lady Hornets Fall To Rival Liberty In Season Opener

The Wellsboro Varsity Softball suffered a 15-0 shut out in four innings to rival North Penn-Liberty on Tuesday, March 26.

The Lady Hornets were held hitless on the afternoon while the Lady Mounties pounded out seven hits.

North Penn-Liberty scored 8 runs in the first inning, 5 in the 2nd, and added two more in the 4th.

McKenzie Tice and Megan Spohn were both 2-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Mounties while Haley Litzelman, Kameron Lightener, and Marissa Griess all had solo hits. Spohn belted a triple and Tice and Griess both doubled.

Tice earned the win, striking out three in two innings. Litzelman came on in relief for the final two innings while tossing 4 strikeouts.

Junior Paige Logsdon started for the Lady Horents and threw one inning, allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 3 hits with 6 walks and a strikeout. Freshman Bailee Confer threw the final three innings. She allowed 7 runs (all earned) on 4 hits with 9 walks.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 0-1 (0-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action after the Easter holiday on Tuesday at Towanda.
