The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team edged Athens 3-2 in a back-and-forth contest on Thursday, October 3.
The Lady Hornets started the night out winning the first set 25-20, then Athens took the 2nd set 25-21 to even the match up at 1-all. Wellsboro dominated a 25-11 3rd set, but again, the Wildcats battled back to win the 4th set, 25-23. Wellsboro closed out the match with a 15-11 5th set.
Sophomore Madison Cruttenden scored 24 points (2 aces) and made 24 digs to lead Wellsboro. Sophomore Blake Eckart also added 23 digs, 15 points (7 aces) and 11 kills, senior Lexi Urena had 14 kills, and senior Paige Logsdon had 9 points (4 aces), 6 kills and an assisted block.
Junior Taylor Main had 11 assists and an assisted block while sophomore Ellie Largey made 17 digs and 8 assists.
Athens won the JV game 2-1. Wellsboro took the first set 25-16 before Athens rallied to win 25-22 and 15-12.
Wellsboro improves to 11-3 and 8-1 in the NTL Large School Division. The team is at the Kane Tournament tomorrow morning.
