The Wellsboro Junior High Soccer team shut out Williamson 6-0 on Friday, October 18 in their season finale to finish the season 15-1.
Williamson was the only team to beat the young Hornets this season. They edged Wellsboro 4-3 on September 16.
"We had this game circled on our calendar since we visited the Warriors earlier in the season," head coach Derek Stevens said. "What a way to end the season, from Braydyn Lehman in goal coming up with clutch saves, to our defense who were like a steel curtain, to our mid field who dominated the 50/50 balls, and to our offense who put quality shots up and into the net."
Liam Stevens opened the scoring with an unassisted, breakaway goal, 7:22 into the game to put the Hornets up early. Later, with 4:11 left in the half, Stevens struck again after Lucas Baker chipped him the ball.
Once the second half started the Hornets went back to work. Just over five minutes in, Callen Novak found Haylie Smith near the far post for a goal. Three minutes later, Cody Tomlinson found Stevens for his third goal of the night, making it 4-0.
Tomlinson later found the back of the net off a pass from Novak with 17:35 remaining, then Novak capped the scoring with 14:08 left.
Wellsboro took 11 shots on goal while holding Williamson to 4. Lehman made 4 saves in goal for a clean sheet.
Wellsboro also won the B game 1-0, the lone goal coming from Jackson Largey.
