The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team scored a pair of 2nd half goals to break a 1-1 tie to defeat Williamson 3-1 on Tuesday, September 10.
The JV game ended in a scoreless tie.
"It was good to get back in the win column following the overtime loss over the weekend," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Williamson is a good team and the surface gave us some trouble, but the boys persevered and got the job done."
Wellsboro struck first near the mid-point of the first period as senior David Seeling scored off a throw in from senior Alex Citrino, and collection from senior Lucas Cuneo, to put the Hornets up early. Williamson knotted the score at 1-all to begin the second as Hayden Plunkert sent a shot past junior Camden Tom. Wellsboro broke the tie with 18:23 left to play on a Citrino goal, assisted by Seeling, to put the Hornets in front, 2-1. Seeling then capped the scoring a minute and a half later off another throw in from Citrino and head flick from Cuneo.
Williamson edged Wellsboro 10-9 in shots and 5-4 in corner kicks.
Tom made 5 saves in goal and sophomore Kayden Rogers also recorded a save.
Wellsboro improves to 6-1 (4-0 NTL). The team is back in action on Thursday at Troy.
