After a slow first quarter the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team mercy ruled Canton, 51-18, during Senior Night on Wednesday, January 17.
The Hornets held a slim 12-10 lead after the first quarter but held the Warriors to just eight total points over the final three quarters. Wellsboro outscored Canton 14-3 in the 2nd, 16-4 in the 3rd, and 9-1 in the 4th.
Senior Hayes Campbell finished with 12 points an was a rebound shy of a double-double. He also had 3 steals. Senior Caden Smith finished with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, junior Lucas Cuneo added 8 points off the bench, sophomore Aaron Kirk had 6 points, sophomore Luke Rothermel had 4, senior Isaac Macias and junior Mitchel Lechler scored 3 points each, and sophomores Jonathan Carl and Marek Mascho added 2 points apiece.
Rothermel grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 assists, Mascho Carl,and senior Ian Hoose grabbed 3 rebounds each, Macias made 2 assists, and Smith and Lechler each made 2 steals. Kirk also grabbed 2 rebounds.
There was no JV game.
The win was the Hornets' 5th straight to improve to 8-3 (6-2 NTL Large School Division). The team hosts Cowanesque Valley tonight.
