Wellsboro faced off on the mats against Loyalsock on Thursday, January 11, with the Lancers defeating the Hornets 33-18 in non-league action.
The Lancers jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead after winning back-to-back matches at 189 lbs. and 215 lbs. before sophomore Jacob Thurstin won by forfeit at 285 lbs. to cut the lead down to 9-6. Loyalsock won again at 121 lbs. and 127 lbs. and 145 lbs. before junior Silas Mickey claimed a forfeit at 152 lbs. Loyalsock won again at 160 then junior Ryder Bowen won by forfeit at 172 lbs. to close out the match.
There were no matches at 107, 114, 133, and 139 lbs.
Loyalsock also won the Junior High contest, 61-15. Gavin Carson won a 6-2 decision at 145 lbs., Dennis McIntyre earned a forfeit at 250 lbs., and Mason Greene scored a pin in 1:29 at 80 lbs.
Wellsboro falls to 4-11 on the year. They host Towanda Saturday afternoon.
