Hornet Cross Country Teams Open Season With Pair Of Wins Against South Williamsport

The Wellsboro Cross Country teams earned a pair of wins over South Williamsport on Tuesday, August 27 to open their season.

Both Varsity teams won 15-50 as the Mounties didn't have enough runners to score.

Junior Max Macias ran a 21:01 to finish 1st overall, followed by junior Henry Whitney (22:19) in 2nd. Junior Ethan Geneski finished 4th in 26:19, freshman Lane Cozby was 5th (26:36), freshman Jack Hammerton (28:33) was 6th, and junior Henry Nowak (32:08) was 7th.

In the girls race sophomore Lauren Kosek ran 25:27 to finish 1st, junior Sophia Yoder (31:11) was 2nd, freshman Molly Tice (31:20) was 3rd, senior Karah Blackwell (33:34) was 4th, freshman Anja Przybycien (37:00) was 5th, and freshman Luisa Crocco (38:58) was 6th.

Wellsboro and South Williamsport split wins in the junior high race. Wellsboro's boys won their race while South Williamsport won the girls race, both by forfeit.

In the boys race Taitt Webster finished 1st in 15:11, followed by Austin DeShazo (15:31), Jacob Patterson (16:07), and Colt Cozby (17:10).

For the girls, Kaci Kosek was first overall in 14:13 while Brianna O'Shea Bowers (21:03) was 4th.

Wellsboro hosts Canton and Sayre for their first league meet on Tuesday, September 3.
