Three first half goals by the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer kept the team undefeated following a 4-1 win over North Penn-Liberty on Thursday, September 5.

"Liberty's high line gave us some problems moving forward and a miscue prevented the clean sheet," head coach Todd Fitch said. "We also struggled to finish our shots. With that said, the boys adapted to a different surface, generated scoring opportunities producing four goals, and kept North Penn-Liberty under pressure when they were in possession. Ultimately, we came away with the result we were after."

Senior Micaiah Fitch got the Hornets off to an early start as he converted a pass from senior Micah Vickery and found the back of the net not even six minutes into the game. Three minutes later senior Braeden Abernathy scored despite the Mountie goalie blocking the shot to make it 2-0. Junior David Seeling added the half's final goal for the Hornets with just over 30 minutes remaining. Fitch and senior Alex Citrino assisted on the goal.

The Hornets remained their 3-0 lead until just under 12 minutes left in the game as Adynn Wheeland put enough on the ball to score, despite it being deflected by junior Camden Tom.

Wellsboro's final goal of the game came roughly a minute after the Mounties added their lone goal as junior Jude Cuneo scored unassisted.

Wellsboro took 19 shots on the afternoon and held Liberty to just 5 shots on goal and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Tom made 5 saves.

Wellsboro won the JV game 8-0 behind a pair of goals from both sophomores Dylan Tomlinson and Peter Doan. Junior Noah Zengerle, and freshman Xavier Lecker, Connor Hartman, and Octavian Wyman added goals while Doan, Lecker, and freshmen Gabe Cuneo, Fen Moyer, Michael Seeling, and Brayden Benjamin assisted on the goals.

The win improves the Hornets to 4-0 (3-0 NTL). The team is back in action at home on Saturday against Milton.
