A goal from senior Micaiah Fitch with 30:15 remaining in the first half gave the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team a 1-0 win over Athens on Tuesday, September 3.

"It was a physical game all 80 minutes," said head coach Todd Fitch. "We connected on an attacking opportunity  and our defenders contained Athens attack. It wasn't our best game, but it's always a good night coming away from Athens with a win."

Seniors Alex Citrino and Braeden Abernathy were credited with assisting on Fitch's goal. Citrino crossed the ball over to Abernathy, who made a chest collection, then passed over to Fitch for the game-winner.

Wellsboro took six shots on goal while holding the Wildcats to just two attempts, and had a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Camden Tom recorded a save in goal for his 3rd shutout of the season.

The Hornets won the JV game 1-0 on a goal by freshman Xavier Lecker.

Wellsboro improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the NTL. The team is back in action on Thursday at North Penn-Liberty.
