Senior Alex Citrino recorded a hat trick to help lead the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team to a 6-2 win over North Penn-Liberty on Wednesday, September 25.
"The boys moved the ball well and created goal scoring opportunities," head coach Todd Fitch said after his 88th career win. "We’re giving up too many goals on miscues and need to clean that up as we move forward. It was a good win for us."
Senior Micaiah Fitch opened the scoring five and a half minutes into the contest off an assist from senior River Moyer. With 26:11 remaining Citrino struck for the first time off an assist from junior David Seeling. Seeling later struck with 13:32 left in the opening half, assisted by junior Jude Cuneo.
Fitch later pushed the Hornets' lead to 4-0 just under the 11-minute mark off a Citrino assist.
Liberty's Tayton Strange put the Mounties on the scoreboard with 8:24 left in the half off a free kick. The Mounties cut the deficit down to 4-2 on a Brady Stetter penalty kick to begin the 2nd half, however Citrino completed his hat trick to keep the Hornets securely in front.
Citrino's second goal came with 21:07 left to play, assisted by Cuneo. His third and final goal came with 5:27 remaining, assisted by Moyer.
