Young Hornet Track Teams Split With Athens

The Wellsboro Junior High Track teams split with Athens in their first home meet on Thursday, April 13.
The boys fell 64-45 while the young Lady Hornets won, 81-24.
For the girls, Piper Hoprich (13.09), Lauren Gehman (14.91) and Serenity Mosher (15.04) swept the 100m, Hoprich (29.44), Ava Magli (32.15) and Mosher (33.03) swept the 200m, Isla Twoey (1:13.11) and Bella Hawn (1:16.95) took the top 2 spots in the 400m, Molly Tice (3:35.35) was 2nd in the 800m, and Megan Newruck (8:01.90) won the 1600m.
Jennifer Belz (19.91), Twoey (20.02) and Blake Eckart (20.21) swept the 100m hurdles, Gehman (4-ft, 8), Newruck (4-ft, 4) and Hawn (4-ft) swept the high jump, Gehman (13-ft, 7.25) won the long jump with Mosher (12-ft, 6.25) in 3rd, and Gehman (30-ft, 3), Newruck (26-ft, 8.75) and Reese Regina (23-ft, 2.25) sweeping the triple jump.
Aileen Bowers was 2nd in the shot put (23-ft, 1.5) and 3rd in the discus (51-ft, 11).
Wellsboro also swept both relays, winning the 4x100m in 56.12 and the 4x400m in 5:21.09.
In the boys meet, Landon Andrews (13.87) was 2nd in the 100m, Owen Stumbo (1:09.76) was 2nd in the 400m, Fen Moyer (3:04.36) was 3rd in the 800m, and Bradyn Benjamin (20.08) and Colin Fletcher (21.67) were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m hurdles.
Fletcher (5-ft, 2) won the high jump, Zander Rachiele (12-ft, 11.5) won the long jump with Stumbo (12-ft, 4.25) in 3rd, Benjamin (28-ft, 4.5), Fletcher (28-ft, 0.5) and Jack Hammerton (24-ft, 4.5) swept the triple jump, and Keagan Spaar won both the discus (99-ft, 1.5) and the shot put (38-ft, 1.5).
Wellsboro took 2nd in both the 4x100m (56.15) and the 4x400m (4:43.66) relays.
The teams are back in action next Thursday at home against Canton.
