Wyalusing used five pins and three forfeits to hand Wellsboro a 46-24 season-opening loss on Wednesday, December 6.
After a pair of forfeits went to Wyalusing at 107 and 114 lbs., sophomore Gavyn Jelliff scored a 12-8 decision at 121 lbs. to cut Wyalusing's lead down to 12-3. However, the Rams ran off back-to-back wins, one by forfeit at at 127 lbs. and a pin fall at 133 lbs. by Clayton Carr over sophomore Mason Nowak, to jump out to a 24-3 lead.
Sophomore Cole Knapp picked up a forfeit at 139 lbs. to make it 24-9, but again Wyalusing rolled off three wins in a row to increase their lead. Trailing 42-9, juniors Ryder Bowen and Evan Ingerick scored back-to-back wins for the Hornets. Bowen won a decision over Ethan Vanderpool at 172 lbs. while Ingerick won by pin in 3:47 at 189 lbs. against Jesse Lamb.
The Rams won a 13-0 major decision at 215 lbs. before sophomore Jacob Thurstin pinned Colton Robinson in 35 seconds at 285 lbs.
Wellsboro (0-1, 0-1 NTL) hosts Troy on Thursday, December 14.
