The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team scored their first win of the season, edging Cowanesque Valley 3-2 on Thursday, August 31.
Cowanesque took the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-20, to put the Lady Hornets in an 0-2 hole. Wellsboro dug themselves out winning 25-22 in the 3rd set and 25-14 in the 4th set to force a 5th set. Wellsboro claimed the 5th set 15-8 to secure their first win of the 2023 season.
Sophomore Taylor Main led the Lady Hornets, scoring 19 points on 25 serve attempts while junior Arianah Lawton scored 18 points. Both recorded six aces apiece. Junior Lexi Urena scored 15 points and made 8 kills, senior Meredith Brownlee made 15 kills and 17 digs, and senior Natalie Cleveland had 6 points and 30 digs. Urena added 12 digs, Lawton made 7 assists, and freshman Blake Eckart added 5 kills, a block, and a dig.
Senior Olivia Chilson also added 3 kills.
Wellsboro won the JV game 2-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The team is back on the court on Tuesday, September 5 against Williamson.
