The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team shut out Jersey Shore 2-0 in a non-league contest on Saturday, September 30.
"Despite several injuries and concussions and starters out, these young ladies played a solid match! We had some underclassmen step up and start, our freshmen really shined tonight," head coach Jason Gehman said. "Jaydn had a clean sheet and did an amazing job and is quickly maturing to fill the shoes left behind now that Annie Gehman plays the field. So proud of them and we look forward to finishing our season strong."
After a scoreless first half the Lady Hornets scored on a pair of direct kicks from junior Cassidy Mitchell. Mitchell scored first with 30:16 remaining, then added her second goal with 28:29 left, putting Wellsboro up 2-0. Wellsboro's defense held the Lady 'Dwags to just 5 shot attempts in the game and two corner kicks to preserve the win.
Wellsboro had 11 shots in the game and 5 corner kicks. Freshman Jadyn Dunlap made 5 saves in the shutout win.
There was no JV game.
The Lady Hornets improve to 4-8 overall. They are back in action on Tuesday against Troy.
