The Wellsboro Lady Hornets' scored a season-high 58 points against Williamson on Friday 3 to pick up their 7th win of the season.
"We finally had a good offensive game," head coach Darrell Morris said. "Chloe was on fire in the 1st half, Maddy was perfect at the foul line, and Paige put 13 in, a lot of those off of offensive rebounds. And for most of the game we played good defense. Ella was all over the place creating turnovers and Hailie and Emily had great defensive games as well."
The Lady Hornets hit six shots in the opening quarter to start the game, including four from behind the line with sophomore Chloe Brandenburg hitting three of them. Wellsboro led 18-12 after the opening quarter and continued to stay hot, outscoring Williamson 15-7 to build a 33-19 lead at the half. In the second quarter Brandenburg hit three more from behind the line. She finished with 8 for the game, setting a new Lady Hornet record for three-point shots made in a game.
Williamson rallied and outscored Wellsboro 13-9 in the third, but the Lady Hornets countered with a 16-7 run in the fourth to secure the win.
Brandenburg set a new career-high with 25 points, sophomore Paige Logsdon finished with a double-double of 13 points and 13 boards, and junior Maddy Mascho added 12 points, including going 8-for-8 from the foul line. Senior Ella Posada added 5 points, senior Hailie Kerr added 2 points and junior Emily Richardson rounded out the scoring with a point. Posada also added 6 assists on the night.
The win improves Wellsboro to 7-10 overall and 7-5 in the NTL Large School Division. The team is back in action at North Penn-Liberty on Monday.
