The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team scored three second half goals en route to defeating South Williamsport 4-1 on Saturday, September 2.
"A solid performance all around," head coach Todd Fitch said. "We did a better job of keeping pressure on the ball as well as linking our passes. We had 4 different guys score goals. Overall, a good way to end the week."
Senior Noah Morey scored with 13:15 remaining in the first half on an assist from junior Lucas Cuneo to give Wellsboro the early lead. Senior Caden Smith put the Hornets up 2-0 just over 10 minutes into the second half as he converted a pass from junior Jack Bryant before the Mounties cut the lead back to down a goal midway through the half.
The Hornets then added a pair of goals to close out the victory, one from senior Jacob Abadi with 14:28 remaining and the other by junior Micaiah Fitch with just over a minute remaining. Senior Dillion Boyce assists on Abadi's goal and Smith setup Fitch's goal.
Wellsboro out shot South Williamsport 9-7 and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Mitchell Butler made 7 stops in goal.
Wellsboro's JV team also won, 9-2 to improve to 2-0, to give the Hornets the sweep for the afternoon. Freshman Coen Tennis had 3 goals with freshman Mason Brill assisting on one, senior Nehemiah Burrous scored 2 goals with sophomore Karter Campbell assisting on one, freshman Kayden Rogers scored 2 goals with Jacob Smith freshman assisting one.
Brill also added a goal assisted by Tennis and Smith added one unassisted goal.
Wellsboro improves to 2-1 (1-1 NTL) on the season and return to play on Wednesday, September 6 at Galeton.
