Hornets Break Halftime Tie, Defeat Towanda 53-41

After being tied at the end of the first half, Wellsboro outscored Towanda 30-18 in the second half to win their 9th straight game on Tuesday, January 31.

"It's always good to get a win on the road," said head coach Steve Adams.

Wellsboro held a 12-8 lead after the opening quarter but were outscored 15-11 by the Black Knights, taking a 23-all tie into the locker room.

The Hornets, however, outscored Towanda 11-6 in the third and 19-11 in the fourth to pull out the victory.

Wellsboro was led by senior Conner Adams and junior Hayes Campbell on the evening. Adams led the way with a season-high 21 points and Campbell added a career-high 19. Senior Cameron Brought added 6 points and 8 boards, junior Caden Smith finished with 4 points and senior Peyton McClure chipped in 3. Adams and Smith added 7 and 5 assists, respectively, Campbell added 8 rebounds and 2 steals, and McClure tallied 3 assists and 2 rebounds.

Teagan Irish (11) and Elias Shrawder (10) led the Black Knights.

Towanda won the JV game 56-49, dropping the Hornets to 5-10 on the season. Freshman Aaron Kirk led Wellsboro with 19 and freshman Jonathan Carl added 15.

The win improves the Hornets to 13-4 overall and 11-1 in the NTL Large School Division standings. Next up for Wellsboro is a rematch with rival North Penn-Mansfield on Thursday. Mansfield won the first meeting of the season, 48-47 in the Peg Berguson Memorial Trophy game.
