Wellsboro dropped their third straight game, falling 11-1 in 5 innings to Hughesville at home on Wednesday, April 12.
The game was scoreless early until the Spartans scored 4 runs in the 3rd, and later added 7 runs in the 4th.
Wellsboro's lone run of the game came in the bottom half of the 4th. Senior Conner Adams led off with a base hit followed by senior Cameron Brought hitting into a fielders choice. A throwing error then freshman Marek Mascho on base to bring up senior Blake Hamblin. Hamblin ripped a single to score Brought cutting it back to a 10-run lead for Hughesville.
Adams led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. Hamblin, junior Caden Smith, sophomore Lucas Cuneo added solo hits on the afternoon.
Hamblin pitched two innings in a losing effort, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Freshman Drayden McGee went one and two thirds of an inning and gave up 6 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and a strikeout. Adams also threw one and a third innings, surrendering two runs on 3 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 4-4 (4-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Friday against Towanda.
