The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team rebounded after a weekend loss to Loyalsock by downing Troy 5-1 on the road on Tuesday, September 19.
"Although we seemed to struggle settling in, the boys controlled most of the game and recorded 5 goals on 15 shots on goal," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Our back line held Troy to 4 shots and did a good job keeping the ball in our attacking half for much of the game."
Wellsboro took an early lead just over five minutes into the contest on an unassisted goal from junior Micaiah Fitch, however the Trojans answered back with 28:42 left in the opening half to tie the game up at 1-all. The score remained tied until the 2:07 mark of the half when junior Gabe Sprouse's header from sophomore Jude Cuneo's corner kick found the back of the net.
From that point on the Hornets never looked back. Once the halftime break finished Wellsboro put up three more points on the scoreboard for the NTL win. Fitch scored his scored goal of the evening early in the 2nd half to make it 3-1. Junior Lucas Cuneo added the Hornets' fourth goal off a pass from sophomore David Seeling with 23:03 remaining, then Fitch completed his hat trick with 12:10 left on a corner kick.
Wellsboro out shot the Trojans 15-4 and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Mitchell Butler and Camden Tom each made 2 saves on the night in goal.
There was no JV game.
Wellsboro improves to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in league play. The team travels to North Penn-Liberty on Thursday.
