Brought, McClure Go For 20 Plus, Hornets Knock Off Loyalsock

Seniors Cameron Brought and Peyton McClure both scored 20 plus points as Wellsboro defeated Loyalsock 64-44 at home on Saturday, February 11.

"Our big guys did an outstanding job tonight," head coach Steve Adams said. "Cam and Hayes each had 16 rebounds which is phenomenal. Our guards did a nice job of handling pressure. The team was looking forward to the challenged and everyone played well tonight."

The Hornets got off to a quick start as they held the Lancers to just two field goals, building an 11-5 lead. In the second Brought and fellow senior Conner Adams led the charge with 7 points apiece as they went on to outscore 'Sock, 16-8 to take a 27-13 lead at halftime. 11 more points from Brought in the third continued to pace Wellsboro's offense in the second half. They went on to outscore the Lancers 37-31, earning their second straight win.

The win is also the first over the Lancers since they won 53-47 to win the 2017-18 District IV Class 3A championship.

Brought tied his career-high with a game-high 22 points. He also finished with 16 boards for his 12th double-double of the season. McClure finished with 21 after scoring 8 of the Hornets' 11 points in the 1st quarter. Adams finished with 13 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds and junior Hayes Campbell added 8 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. McClure also grabbed 5 rebounds and junior Caden Smith made 5 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds.

In the JV game, the Lancers edged Wellsboro 33-30. Freshman Jonathan Carl had 13 for the Hornets.

The win improves Wellsboro to 15-6 on the year and keeps them in line for the #2 seed in the District IV Class 3A playoffs. The Hornets close out their regular season schedule tomorrow at Northeast Bradford.
