A 23-point first quarter helped Hughesville cruise past the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team on Saturday, January 7.
In the first half alone, the Lady Spartans put up a combined 43 points, outscoring Wellsboro by 28 points. Hughesville then held the Lady Hornets to just 7 points in the second half. Wellsboro committed 34 turnovers in the game.
Senior Ella Posada led Wellsboro with 9 points, sophomore Paige Logsdon added 6, junior Maddy Mascho finished with 4, sophomore Chloe Brandenburg added 2 points, and senior Hailie Kerr rounded out the scoring with a point. Logsdon added 9 rebounds to her point total while Posada grabbed 3 rebounds and made 2 steals.
Hughesville also won the JV game, 17-11, with Mascho leading Wellsboro with 9 points.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 3-7 overall. The team is back in action tomorrow evening at Troy.
