The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team scored four second half goals to shut out South Williamsport 6-0 at home on Saturday, September 3.
"I was very pleased with the boys performance tonight," head coach Todd Fitch said.
Junior Caden Smith backed up his four-goal performance from earlier in the week against Towanda with another 4 against the Mounties. Smith opened up the scoring just over three minutes into the contest off an assist by senior Peyton McClure. Smith later scored the game's second goal at the 26:40 mark on a header off an assist from senior Jack Poirier to put the Hornets up 2-0.
Smith added two more goals to start the second half, the first on an assist by sophomore Alex Citrino, and the second on another Poirier assist.
Smith later assisted a Poirier goal with 17:42 remaining to push the lead to 5-0 before sophomore Jack Bryant scored with 13:38 to go, assisted by junior Dillion Boyce.
Senior Aiden Gehman and junior Mitchell Butler combined for the clean sheet, as they held South Williamsport to just three total shot attempts on goal, all in the second half. The Hornets also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The win improves the Hornets to 2-0 (1-0 NTL). Wellsboro is back in action at Williamson on Wednesday, September 7.
