A pair of second half goals led the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team to a 2-0 shutout over Williamson on Wednesday, September 7.
"Williamson is a quality team," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Aiden (keeper) and our defense came up with some game changing stops and our attackers finished two of our opportunities. That combination was the difference in this match."
The first 40 minutes of the game were scoreless, but not for lack of shots (Wellsboro edged Williamson 7-6). Once the second half started the Hornets wasted little time in scoring, as junior Caden Smith continued his hot streak and found the back of the net at 34:27 with an assist from sophomore Alex Citrino. Wellsboro maintained that lead until there were 6 and a half minutes remaining. At that moment, senior Jack Poirier rifled a kick from 35 yards out to make it 2-0.
Senior Aiden Gehman recorded 10 saves in goal for his third straight shut out.
In the JV game the Hornets also won, 2-1. Freshman David Seeling and sophomore River Moyer scored the goals for Wellsboro.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 3-0 (2-0 NTL). The team is back in action on Saturday, September 10 at Troy.
