Middle School Hornets end season with wins over Williamson

The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams concluded their seasons on Tuesday, March 16 with a pair of wins over Williamson.

The Lady Hornets handed Williamson their first loss of the season. Wellsboro outscored Williamson 11-2 in the third quarter and did not look back winning 34-18. Paige Logsdon had 6 points, 6 blocks and 12 rebounds, Chloe Brandenburg had 10 points and 4 rebounds, Maddie Losinger had 2 steals, Raegan Watkins-Bourret had 12 points and 2 assists, LeAnna Fuentes had 4 rebounds and 2 assists, Megan Robbins had 4 points and 2 steals, and Myia Schoonover had 2 points.

"The girls had something to prove," head coach Janelle Tombs said. "In the second half, they showed it by going after the ball nonstop. Overall it was a great team win with every member doing their part. I am proud of their Hornet Pride and how they represented."

Wellsboro's B Team won 19-11. Myia Schoonover had 7 points, Lilah Paredes and Jordan Rumsey has 4 points each, and Lily Wagner and Megan Robbins had 2 points each.

In the boys game the Hornets defeated Williamson 36-16. Despite trailing after the first quarter, the Hornets led 15-8 at halftime and controlled the second half to secure the victory.

"We got off to a very slow start, which is always concerning," said head coach Kyle Smith, "but the boys found another gear in the second half and played very determined basketball. Tonight we got some key contributions from our bench players and it gave us the spark we needed."

Mitchel Lechler led the Hornets with 16 points, Micaiah Fitch scored 13 points, EJ Keck added 3 points, Owen Stevens scored 2 points and Drayden McGee added 2 points.

The Hornet B team won 48-18. Jacob Baldwin scored 11 points, Jonathan Carl scored 11 points, Luke Rothermel scored 10 points, Marek Mascho and Noah Zengerle scored 4 points each and Owen Stevens, Drayden McGee, Payton Yawger, and Landen Wescott all added 2 points each.

The girls finished their season with a 9-2 record while the boys were 7-5.
